PICTURE OF DALEY FIELDHOUSE WITH ELEVATIONS OF  53' AND 31' ABOVE CHICAGO CITY DATUM

The current field house site is considered “legal” because it is 100% below the  “ground  level” of
Upper Randolph in this area (53’ CCD).

However, it is a PUBLIC park facility, set completely into the hill, and not a PRIVATE pay-for-entry
museum extending out into an “above ground building”.

Possibly…..
“Children’s Learning Center” or “Chicago Interactive Children’s Center” would better describe the
activities and programs designed for children.

However, that may affect acceptance in public parks …or contributions.

Is Any Private or Public Museum ENTITLED to buy or be given a site in any Public Park ?

Especially a GRANT PARK protected by the 1836 and 1839 Dedication Restrictions

                                                          Probably NO

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Last year, the Children’s Museum proposed a building with a 40’ glass dome (1,300 sq.ft.) above
Upper Randolph. This year’s “new” proposal was 13,000 sq.ft. above Upper Randolph, and
therefore 10 times more in violation of the dedication restrictions.

Now CCM is back with a THIRD “NEW” VERSION that is almost the SAME as the FIRST
VERSION…and in the SAME LOCATION that was rejected by Alderman Natarus and 400 local
residents last year.

INSERT - SEPTEMBER 2, 2007 TRIBUNE EDITORIAL

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Jim Law: “There is a long tradition of museums in parks.”

1909 page 15 (3rd Ward decision):  “…above the surface of the ground…neither the legislature nor
any municipal corporation…can violate the restriction imposed in the dedication of the property…not
whether park buildings , museums…but whether a building of any kind could be so erected, …”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Peter England: “We want to provide open
space for our children.” (at 175)

Jim Law: “We do not have access to outdoor
space at Navy Pier.” (at 195)

Jim Law: “…create an environment that can work together with an outdoor space.” (at 155)

Adding even a small percentage of  750,000 Children’s Museum ticketed visitors to our neighborhood
playground, would impact the quality-of-life of our New Eastside residents.

                      750,000 / 365 = 2055 per day average

What plans does the Chicago Park District have to enlarge and rebuild on the existing site of the Daley
Bicentennial Plaza Field House? SUGGESTION: Use some of the $563 million from the Morgan Stanley
99-year lease !!           BACKGROUND PICTURE OF DALEY FIELDHOUSE DRIED SALT SEEPAGE

This is why the 1976 waterproof membrane          PICTURE OF WATER GUTTERS ON CEILING
will be replaced under the entire Daley Bicentennial Plaza (Monroe Garage).
It must be replaced within  5 years under the terms of the 99-year Morgan Stanley lease.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The ceiling of the Monroe Garage has been repaired                    PICTURE OF CEILING
by injecting a sealant into the cracks.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The park district has stated that the BP Bridge and                  OVERALL PICTURE OF DALEY PLAZA
the Daley Field House will NOT be disturbed with
the Monroe Garage membrane rebuilding.

However, the ice rink apparently cannot be saved and
no one guarantees it will be rebuilt (as of August, 2007).
